Safety

The ID.4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Volkswagen ID.4’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Polestar 4 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the ID.4 and the Polestar 4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

Volkswagen’s powertrain warranty covers the ID.4 4 years and 50,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 4. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 4 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 20 times as many Volkswagen dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ID.4’s warranty.

Engine

The ID.4’s standard electric motor produces 10 more horsepower (282 vs. 272) and 149 lbs.-ft. more torque (402 vs. 253) than the Polestar 4’s standard electric motor. The ID.4’s optional electric motors produces 30 lbs.-ft. more torque (536 vs. 506) than the Polestar 4’s optional electric motors.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the ID.4’s turning circle is 6.7 feet tighter than the Polestar 4’s (31.5 feet vs. 38.2 feet). The ID.4 AWD’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the Polestar 4’s (36.4 feet vs. 38.2 feet).

For greater off-road capability the ID.4 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 4 (6.9 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the ID.4 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Volkswagen ID.4 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 400 pounds less than the Polestar 4.

The ID.4 is 10.1 inches shorter than the Polestar 4, making the ID.4 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Ergonomics

The ID.4’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Polestar 4’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

Compared to the Polestar 4, the Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S Plus eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.

The ID.4’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
