Compare the2026 Volkswagen TiguanVS 2026 Genesis GV80

The Volkswagen Tiguan’s rear backup camera has a standard washer for maintaining a clear view under various conditions. In contrast, the Genesis GV80 does not offer a rear camera washer, meaning its effectiveness relies on manual cleaning by the user when necessary.

Both the Tiguan and the GV80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Volkswagen Tiguan is safer than the Genesis GV80:

There are over 3 times as many Volkswagen dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Tiguan’s warranty.

The Volkswagen Tiguan’s engines use a cast iron block for durability, while the GV80’s engines use an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Tiguan’s reliability 14 points higher than the GV80.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Volkswagen vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Volkswagen 5 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

On the EPA test cycle the Tiguan gets better mileage than the GV80:

Regenerative brakes improve the Tiguan’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Volkswagen Tiguan uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GV80 2.5T requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Volkswagen Tiguan higher (6 out of 10) than the Genesis GV80 (5 to 6). This means the Tiguan produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the GV80 every 15,000 miles.

The Tiguan stops shorter than the GV80:

The Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo handles at .85 G’s, while the GV80 AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GV80 AWD (27 seconds @ .67 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Tiguan’s turning circle is 1.2 feet tighter than the GV80’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

The Volkswagen Tiguan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1150 to 1350 pounds less than the Genesis GV80.

The Tiguan is 10.1 inches shorter than the GV80, making the Tiguan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Volkswagen Tiguan amounts to more than styling. The Tiguan has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .3 Cd. That is lower than the GV80 (.33) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Tiguan get better fuel mileage.

The Tiguan has 1.3 inches more rear headroom and 1.5 inches more rear legroom than the GV80.

The Tiguan has a much larger cargo volume than the GV80 with its rear seat up (33.8 vs. 11.6 cubic feet).

Standard trailer stability control on the Tiguan uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV80, the Tiguan SEL has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the Tiguan the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the GV80 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Tiguan to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV80 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Tiguan’s headlights were rated “Good” to “Acceptable” by the IIHS, while the GV80’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Tiguan SEL has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV80 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Tiguan also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

According to iSeeCars.com the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan retains 52.24% of its original value after 5 years, significantly more than the 45.07% resale value of the 2026 Genesis GV80 after five years, which can save the Volkswagen’s owner up to $17884 in depreciation.
