2026 Volkswagen Jetta
2026 Nissan Sentra

Safety

The Jetta has a standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Sentra doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the Jetta and Sentra have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Jetta has Rear Traffic Alert (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Sentra’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Jetta and the Sentra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The Jetta comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car. The Sentra’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Jetta’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Sentra’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Engine

The Jetta’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 9 more horsepower (158 vs. 149) and 38 lbs.-ft. more torque (184 vs. 146) than the Sentra’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Jetta gets better mileage than the Sentra:

Jetta

S 1.5 turbo 4-cyl.

29 city/40 hwy

Sport/SE/SEL 1.5 turbo 4-cyl.

Sentra

29 city/38 hwy

SR/SL 2.0 DOHC 4-cyl.

28 city/36 hwy

Environmental Friendliness

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifies the Volkswagen Jetta as a “Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle” (SULEV). The Nissan Sentra is only certified to “Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle” (ULEV) standards.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Jetta’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Sentra:

Jetta

Sentra

Front Rotors

11.3 inches

11 inches

Rear Rotors

10.7 inches

10.2 inches

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Jetta SEL’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Sentra (225/45R18 vs. 215/50R17).

The Jetta Sport/SE/SEL has a standard space-saver spare (not available on S) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Sentra; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Jetta has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Sentra’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Jetta’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (59% to 41%) than the Sentra’s (62.1% to 37.9%). This gives the Jetta more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The design of the Volkswagen Jetta amounts to more than styling. The Jetta has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is lower than the Sentra (.268 to .288) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Jetta get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Jetta has .5 inches more rear headroom and 2.6 inches more rear legroom than the Sentra.

Ergonomics

When three different drivers share the Jetta SEL, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position and outside mirror angle. The Sentra doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Jetta’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Sentra’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the Jetta SE/R-Line/SEL/SEL Premium the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows with the driver’s door power window switch. The driver of the Sentra can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Jetta’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Sentra’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Jetta SEL to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Sentra doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Jetta’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Heated mirrors cost extra on the Sentra and aren’t offered on the Sentra S.

The Jetta has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Sentra and isn’t available on the Sentra S/SV.

Compared to traditional radio, the Volkswagen Jetta’s standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks. Satellite radio costs extra on the Sentra.
