Both the ID.BUZZ and the EX90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

There are over 2 times as many Volkswagen dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ID.BUZZ’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Volkswagen vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. With 33 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Volkswagen higher than Volvo.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the ID.BUZZ’s wheelbase is 10 inches longer than on the EX90 (127.5 inches vs. 117.5 inches).

For better maneuverability, the ID.BUZZ’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the EX90’s (37.4 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

Chassis

The Volkswagen ID.BUZZ may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 200 pounds less than the Volvo EX90.

Passenger Space

The ID.BUZZ has 20.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the EX90 (160.1 vs. 140).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the EX90, the ID.BUZZ has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the ID.BUZZ to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The EX90 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The ID.BUZZ’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX90’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The ID.BUZZ has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The EX90 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Model Availability

The ID.BUZZ is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The EX90 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The ID.BUZZ was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025. The EX90 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the ID.BUZZ as the 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The EX90 has never been chosen.
