Safety

The ID.BUZZ’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Lyriq doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The ID.BUZZ has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Lyriq doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The ID.BUZZ has Car2X, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems

Both the ID.BUZZ and the Lyriq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The ID.BUZZ’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Lyriq’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Volkswagen pays for scheduled maintenance on the ID.BUZZ for 2 years and 20,000 miles. Volkswagen will pay for cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Lyriq.

There are over 11 percent more Volkswagen dealers than there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the ID.BUZZ’s warranty.

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Volkswagen vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Volkswagen 3 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

Engine

The ID.BUZZ’s standard electric motor produces 88 lbs.-ft. more torque (413 vs. 325) than the Lyriq’s standard electric motor. The ID.BUZZ’s optional electric motors produces 62 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 450) than the Lyriq’s optional electric motors.

The ID.BUZZ has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Lyriq doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the ID.BUZZ’s wheelbase is 5.7 inches longer than on the Lyriq (127.5 inches vs. 121.8 inches).

For better maneuverability, the ID.BUZZ’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Lyriq’s (37.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The ID.BUZZ offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Lyriq can only carry 5.

Ergonomics

The ID.BUZZ Pro S Plus has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the ID.BUZZ to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Lyriq doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the ID.BUZZ has a standard rear wiper. The Lyriq doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Lyriq’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The ID.BUZZ’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the ID.BUZZ to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Lyriq doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Recommendations

The ID.BUZZ was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025. The Lyriq has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the ID.BUZZ as the 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Lyriq has never been chosen.
